The first specialized safety standard for motorcycle accessories in China, "Safety Requirements for Storage Devices of Motorcycles and Light Motorcycles," was officially implemented on November 1st. The motorcycle trunk, as the core storage accessory, was included in the mandatory testing scope for the first time. The standard clearly requires that the trunk must pass 12 basic tests, including load-bearing, impact resistance, waterproofing, and lock anti-theft performance. The load-bearing test must meet the static load-bearing capacity of 1.5 times the rated weight without structural damage, and the waterproof performance must reach IPX4 level or above.
According to the drafting unit of the standard, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute, the quality of trunk products in the industry has been uneven, and some low-priced products have problems such as insufficient load-bearing capacity and easy damage to locks. After the implementation of the new standards, products that have not passed the testing will not be allowed to leave the factory for sale, and regulatory authorities will conduct special spot checks in the production and sales processes. Domestic leading accessory companies such as Adele and Marriott have completed production line adjustments, and their sold tail boxes have passed the first batch of inspections; Small and medium-sized manufacturers need to complete technology upgrades within a six-month transition period, otherwise they will face market exit risks.
